Board of Directors Responsibilities
Board members develop policies and set goals for Washington Water Trails Association, as well as monitoring finances, programs, and performance.
Expectations
- Regularly attend scheduled meetings. See schedule here.
- Participate on committee or ad hoc task forces
- Attend annual board retreat and board trainings
- Assist with special events as needed
- Personal time requirement of approximately 2 hours/week or 10 hours/month (including Board meeting) for committee work and other activities
Obligations of the board
- Formulate and approve general policies relating to the mission, activities, administration and operations
- Hire, supervise and evaluate the Executive Director
- Secure adequate funds and resources
- Monitor finances
- Maintain and update long-range plans
Qualifications
- Interested in human or wind-powered beachable watercraft, public shoreline access, and the water trail concept
- Must be a member of WWTA in good standing; may not be WWTA employeee
Specific Duties
- Be well-informed and educated on issues related to the organization
- Contribute skills, knowledge and experience when appropriate
- Work with others willingly
- Support the organization financially
- Assume leadership roles in board activities, including fund raising
- Represent the organization to the public and to private industry
- Advocate the mission in the community
